Product Information

Pale coloured Turkish hand-knotted vintage Taspinar rug from Turkey’s Central Anatolian region. This is an original village handmade wool rug from Turkey which measures approximately 134x232cm (4.4½ x 7.7ft) excluding any tassels - we love the gorgeous soft pinks and creamy golds in this lovely old rug.  This rug is an old piece so it isn't thick, so we would recommend some of our underlay. See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

Normally Taspinar rugs are easily recognisable by their blues, reds and greens together with their central medallion pattern and multiple borders. This piece is out of the ordinary with its gorgeous pale colours! They have good wool quality and a classic Turkish look. Going back 20 or 30 years these lovely fine rugs were easy to find in Turkey but now they are not seen as much at all.

Taspinar is on the central Anatolian plateau within the wider Aksaray region and was renowned for its rug weaving, but much less weaving is carried these days unfortunately. Aksaray is on the Silk Road, where you would find lovely old stone caravanserais which were built to shelter traders who were travelling along the silk route, this in turn helped the region to thrive.
