Large vintage handwoven Turkish kilim (Kelim) rug from Tavas in the region of Denizli - an authentic nomadic wool rug. Handmade using flat slit weave Kilim technique. This flat-woven vintage Kilim from Turkey measures approximately 184x281cm (6.0½ x 9.2½ft) excluding any fringes - a one of a kind piece and semi-antique - this is a truly breath taking rug, the colours are stunning and really bright and colourful. Although this rug is woven in 99% wool the bright colours in some elements of the motifs are woven in bright coloured cotton - this gives a completely different look in that cotton stays bright and changes less over time so that's why the bright detail is still so bright! This piece was woven in the environs of a town called Denizli, in Turkey's Western Usak Province. Denizli is a City in the high country between the Aegean and Mediterranean regions of western of Turkey - these Kilims are woven by Turkmen Yoruk tribes, the descendants of the Turkic tribes that settled in Anatolia hundreds of years ago.  Apart from Kilim weaving, Denizli is also famous for its Hammam towel production.  For information on our Rug Underlays look here.
