Product Information

A pretty, handwoven vintage Turkish Karapinar flatweave kilim rug. This rug comes from the village of Karapinar which is within the Konya region of Turkey (Karapinar means "black spring"). Flat-woven using the cicim weft wrapping weave kilim technique. Traditionally Kilims from the Konya region come in a wide range of designs. This original vintage wool Kilim rug measures approximately 98x120cm (3.2½ x 3.11ft) excluding any fringes - we love the unique charm of this beautiful old rug, featuring an interesting design and motifs created with the cicim weft-wrapping kilim technique. As an older piece, it’s best suited for low-traffic areas or used as a wall hanging, table cover, or similar space. We would recommend the use of our underlay if it is going to be used on a wood or tiled floor which will give it extra support and help with wear as well. Find out about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

Konya is the ancient capital of Seljuk Empire and is situated on the great trade route expanding from China to Constantinople and is famous for its Rugs and Kilims which make great, functional and decorative interior floor coverings. Some of the oldest surviving examples of Anatolian Turkish Kilims are from this area and the designs are very diverse in that many villages used to weave and would have had their own unique patterns. For information on our Rug Underlays Look Here.
