Product Information

Attractive semi antique handknotted Turkish Kayseri carpet measuring approximately 204x289cm (6.8 x 9.5½ft) excluding any fringes - we love the rich burgundy tones in the borders and the intricate central floral design of this Turkish carpet. It has a beautifully aged, antique look that adds to its appeal. Kayseri is in Central Anatolia and rugs and carpets from here are generally finely woven with an all over floral Persian style design against a cream or cherry raspberry coloured background. The weaving of these hand knotted rugs stopped a long time ago and we only now find semi antique pieces. These handmade rugs do not have a high pile, they are finely woven and quite flat giving a lovely worn antique look and feel. These rugs are always wool pile with cotton warp/wefts. Kayseri is renowned for its major trade links as it is situated on the old the silk road - it has a fantastic bazaar and caravanserai where people have traded since 1500AD.  It was famous for its carpet and kilim weaving in the past, it is still however famous for it spicy dried cured beef “pastirma” and also the tasty “mantı” which is a meat filled dumpling! For information on our Underlays For Kilims & Rugs Look Here.
