SUZ823 Vintage Uzbek Suzani Embroidery 125x148cm (4.1 x 4.10ft)

Decorative vintage Suzani embroidery from Samarkand - an Uzbekistan textile from Central Asia.  The characteristics of this hand sewn piece are its off white background and colourful Zoroastrian sun motif in its central field - this needlepoint has been embroidered over a cotton background and measures approximately 125x148cm (4.1 x 4.10ft).  Can be used as a table or partial bed cover, over the back of the sofa or as a wall hanging.  This is an older suzani and has some marks that it has picked up over the years but even so it is a really beautiful piece. It is unlined except for a border around the edge on the reverse as shown in the images.  We love the colourful motifs in the corners. Note that there are some areas of water marks - see image.

Suzani means needlepoint in Farsi and the background fabric of these textiles is usually either cotton, velvet, silk or satin with silk embroidery.  Minor tears can sometimes be present which is normal for these vintage older pieces (some of them have old Central Asian fabric backing). All of our Uzbekistan Suzanis are original older pieces ranging from approximately 20 to 70 years.  Often pen is used as a marker for layout before embroidery starts and occasionally one can see some of the original pen outline which is normal for original pieces. Find out more about Suzanis here.
