This vintage Turkish Gumushane kilim rug is from an area between Erzurum and Ordu in North Eastern Anatolia. Woven in the traditional flat slit-weave technique, this unique Kelim rug from Turkey is an authentic semi-antique piece and it measures approximately 82x116cm (2.8 x 3.10ft) excluding any fringes - we love the abstract prayer design and pretty soft pinks and autumnal colours, don't miss the purples which are woven in cotton, this is a lovely quirky piece. Gumushane means “silver house” (mines) and used to be famous for its silver mines in past times. It sits alongside the Harsit River southwest of Trabzon and is surrounded by mountains making it famous for trekking and cave exploration. It is also an area renowned for its sweet desserts!
