This vintage Turkish Gumushane kilim rug is from an area between Erzurum and Ordu in North Eastern Anatolia. Woven in the traditional flat slit-weave technique, this unique Kelim rug from Turkey is an authentic semi-antique piece and it measures approximately 86x135cm (2.10 x 4.5ft) excluding any fringes - we love the soft autumnal colours together with the prayer design and niche at the top of the pattern. This piece is slightly wonky which add character to these village woven pieces. Find out more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.
Gumushane means “silver house” (mines) and used to be famous for its silver mines in past times. It sits alongside the Harsit River southwest of Trabzon and is surrounded by mountains making it famous for trekking and cave exploration. It is also an area renowned for its sweet desserts!
