Product Information

A stunning large vintage village made traditional Turkish Cal Kilim Rug. This is an original and authentic piece which is hand-woven in wool using the kilim flat slit weave technique; it measures approx 200x350cm (6.6½ x 11.5½ft) excluding any fringes. This Cal rug from Turkey is a one of a kind piece and semi-antique - we love this rug, it has a very interesting design, you keep seeing more and more things in the detail the more you look!  The earthy colours are really beautiful - don't miss the bright colours in some of the emblems and motifs which are woven cotton -  although this rug is almost 100% wool, the bright colours are woven mostly in cotton which gives a completely different look to that of a rug woven in all wool - cotton changes colour less over time so that's why the bright detail is still so bright! See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

Cal is a small town north-east of Denizli known for weaving both flat-woven and pile knotted rugs although not many rugs are now made in this area. Kilims from the Cal region are quite unusual and have interesting geometric patterns and colours such as burnt orange, terracottas and blues. Cal Kilims have their own unusual designs, commonly having a central medallion on a fairly open ground but there can be exceptions to this.  For information on our Rug Underlays look here.
