11693 Large Azerbaijan Vintage Soumak Kilim Rug 220x401cm (7.2½ x 13.2ft)

A stunning large authentic semi antique Azerbaijan Kilim Rug woven in Soumak flat weave (weft wrapping). Azerbaijan sits north of Persia next to the Caspian Sea and was formerly part of the Soviet Union; these Kilims are also known as Dagestan Soumaks. The measurements of this original flat weave wool kilim are approx 220x401cm (7.2½ x 13.2ft) excluding any tassels - this rug is truly beautiful, it has a lovely old look and feel and is very large, 4 meters long!  The colours are so gorgeous - don't expect completely straight lines is in this handmade old rug! See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

Azerbaijani kilims come from an ancient tradition of weaving rugs and kilims for use as wall hangings, floor coverings and bed covers.  The skill of weaving these fine and intricate Azeri rugs was passed down through the generations and each village would have its own typical design.
